I had nose surgery at Doctors Hospital and while I was unconscious, they catheterized me despite my refusal for the treatment. I would not have known except for the pain I suffered from the procedure. They refused to give me any info about the staff who did the procedure, which amounted to an assault. They said that it is routine and told me to “forget it and be at peace”. Whoever did the procedure injured me and they downplayed it. Not only did they not inform me or ask permission for the procedure if they knew that they were going to catheterize me due to the length of my surgery, they will not give me my medical records of what happened while I was under anesthesia. I know of two other people who were catheterized unnecessarily there, but with their knowledge, and it seems like they do it for practice for their medical students or nurses. I signed a consent form for my surgery, I did not sign to be assaulted with something by nurses despite my refusal for the treatment. At the very least, they should have informed me after the surgery if they did it. I complained about the pain from this to many of the nurses & my surgery MO and they ignored me until the third week when one of them did tell me what they did. I am NOT ok with having such invasive procedures without my permission. This hospital is a scary place.
