An intensivist is a board-certified physician who provides special care for critically ill patients. Also known as a critical care physician, the intensivist has advanced training and experience in treating this complex type of patient. An intensivist is also called an ICU doctor. The role of intensivist in Pakistan mainly consists of managing critical patients care and takes measures to control it.

Two years of fellowship training in advanced general internal medicine (that include at least six months of critical care medicine) plus one year of accredited fellowship training in critical care medicine.
If you are hospitalized for a critical disease or accident or acquire an infection while hospitalized, intensivist in Pakistan will follow and help direct your hospital care. In some cases, they may continue to see you after you are shifted to the normal ward. The service of intensivist is required where the condition of patient is complex to diagnose.
